A valid passport of your country of origin is required for entry to the Bahamas. Whether you fly or come by ferry you will be provided an immigration form that must be completed for each person entering the country.
We have a backpack cooler that we use to bring frozen meats with us. You can carry this on the airlines and the Balearia. It is not necessary to bring food as they do have grocery stores on both islands.
Silver Airways flys direct from Fort Lauderdale International (FFL) to South Bimini. The flight time is about 40 mins. Please note that they do not fly every day to Bimini. Look at their availability first before booking any flights to and from FFL. From the Bimini airport the ferry to get to North Bimini is about a 10 minute taxi ride.
Seaplane anyone? Tropic Ocean Airways leaves from FFL Sheltair and lands on the water in North Bimini. The flight is about 35 minutes and they also offer private charters. Although they do operate out of FFL Sheltair, if you fly into FFL you will need to grab a Uber/Lyft to transfer you to this smaller airport. The ride is typically $20-30 and takes about 20 minutes.
The Balearia operates out of Port Everglades and takes about 2 hours to get to North Bimini. The cost starts around $235 and varies depending on the time of the year. Book early as this fills up quickly. They do offer onboard services including WIFI, duty-free shopping, outside seating, a snack-bar, and full cocktail bar! Don't forget to try their Bahama Mama!
